    Very reliable and thorough”

Found a wasp nest that we never knew about. Took their time and were very kind and courteous, even with my pups! Highly recommend this company from today’s visit.

Our Spectrum Protection Plan is your best bet for keeping those annoying pests out. Our Three-step program will help keep every area of your home’s interior free of pests year-round.

Our comprehensive program works like this:

Our trained professionals will visit your home and survey for all possible points of entry for pests. They will examine both the interior and exterior parts of your home. Our technicians will go the extra mile to find problem areas for current pest issues and ones that may come up in the future.

After our technicians have performed a thorough inspection, they will do a complete treatment of your home. Whether it’s ants in the summer or spiders in the winter, this treatment will keep out seasonal pests all year long.

We don’t consider the job done after the treatment is finished. We will check back in to make sure the pests are staying away and to examine problem areas again to help prevent future infestations.

“Very satisfied with the experience with Spectrum”

The person I spoke with initially was courteous and understanding of our interest in using the minimum product possible to achieve results due to some sensitivities with our kids. The technician, Cory, was prompt and professional – understanding our concerns and tailoring the treatment approach accordingly. Will be using Spectrum for our pest control needs.

Is Seeing One Mouse in Your Home Reason Enough to Call Spectrum Pest Control in Pittsburgh?

Depending on whether you are petrified of mice or think they make cute pets, seeing one mouse in your residence or commercial building should raise infestation “red flags”. Did you know that, under the right conditions, one female mouse and one male mouse can create a community of nearly 300 active mice in less than three months?

Unless confined to a cage, mice will chew, eat, gnaw and urinate until they have thoroughly damaged any Pittsburgh residence or commercial building. Prolific and incredibly opportunistic, mice are infamous for being able to dissolve a building’s foundation by excreting continual streams of acidic urine over time. Mice also transmit diseases like salmonella, leptospirosis and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome through urine, droppings, biting humans and carrying fleas.

So, the next time you happen to spot a lonely mouse scampering across the floor towards the nearest hiding spot, remember that it takes only one mouse to produce damaging mice infestations in Pittsburgh homes and businesses.

Is Pest Proofing Your Home Possible?

There are some things you can do to reduce the potential for mice infestations but they can be time-consuming and not all that cheap:

    • Filling all holes, gaps or cracks you find with proper foundation material. Larger holes can be protected by covering holes with sheet metal or metal mesh.
    • Inspecting all window frames and door frames for gaps and holes. Replace weather stripping that does not tightly seal windows. Install metal kickplates to repel mice from gnawing if you see evidence of chewing on doors.
    • Trimming back tree branches that are hanging over or touching your roof. Mice, rats and other Pittsburgh-area rodents will use branches as quick pathways into your home.
    • Inspecting vent screens, roof ventilators and shingles every month to ensure they are undamaged and secure.
    • Checking cable/wire entry points outside your home every month. Seal existing gaps with appropriate materials if necessary.

Be aware than an average-size mouse is only three to four inches long from tail tip to nose. They can squeeze through openings less than 1/4 inch in diameter. In other words, if a mouse and his family want to get into your home, they’ll likely find a way.

    What About Mouse Traps?

Placing mouse traps here and there may catch a few rodents but they won’t make a dent in a mice infestation. Mice are highly intelligent creatures with long-term memories, instinctive avoidance behaviors and more lives than any seasoned alley cat. If you do happen to catch a mouse, it’s likely that mouse was physically injured in some way, starving or elderly. Young, healthy mice are smart mice that can steal food off a mouse trap like an expert. That’s why you’ll find unsprung traps with no food on them.

Rats vs Mice: Same Infestation Problem, Different Rodent

The main differences between rats and mice is their size and robustness. Rats need a hole about the size of quarter to squeeze through. They are also more difficult to get rid of. Since rats instinctively evade certain odors and tastes, commercial rat repellents will not eliminate an infestation. Rats transmit a variety of serious viral, bacterial, parasitical and protozoan diseases that can sicken both humans and pets. Also be aware that rats are superior swimmers and climb walls skillfully. Many homeowners trying to drown out a rat infestation with a water hose will probably find out later they have only forced their uninvited guests to squat in a drier part of their home.

If you think you have a rodent infestation, don’t wait until irreversible damage is done to your home. For dependable pest control Pittsburgh residents know they can rely on our professional pest control technicians for fast, effective elimination of rodent infestations.
