Get Rid of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are the hardest insect to control, even for the professionals. DDT was a widely used insecticide in the 40s and 50s. It reduced their population for years until the bed bugs started to develop a resistance towards it around 1960. The EPA was already phasing DDT out of production and a new line of insecticide was taking its place. Pyrethroids were introduced in the early 60s and had great success controlling bed bug populations for quite a few years until bed bugs developed a resistance toward those products also.

With the use of DDT in the early 50s, Americas bed bug population was well controlled and only a small percentage of people had the problem. Scientist believe that the increase of international travel in the 90s attributed to the increase of our bed bug populations today. I have been in the exterminating field for almost thirty years, and it was not until about fifteen years ago that I saw my first bed bug. Prior to that, no one had any problems. Since that time, the bed bug population has exploded. The problem that home owners and even exterminators run into is all products available on the market are Pyrethroid based. It is not that the products will not kill them, but there will be a certain percentage that will not die so you can never get to the root of the problem.

Spectrum Pest Control offers a 4-stage bed bug treatment that includes other methods to kill the pyrethroid resistant bed bugs. We use a combination of a deep extraction, heat treatment and then a final treatment of two insecticides. Unfortunately, this is the only method that ensures that you kill the whole population. Most people that find themselves in a bed bug situation will first try to solve the problem on their own. If this does not work out, we highly recommend seeking professional help. Give Spectrum Pest Control a call and we would be happy to help.
