Many of our clients are busy folks with lives and families, so they need our help to get rid of Pittsburgh, PA pest control problems. That’s understandable, and we’re more than happy to help. But if they don’t have the time to get rid of the pest problems inside the home, why would they worry about pests in the yard? Well, you’d better make a little bit of time. Because you should definitely worry about pests living in your yard. We can explain:
- Proximity is the problem here. Pests can live in your yard for a long time without issue, because you probably don’t spend that much time out there (especially in the colder months). The real issue is how close your home is to a large population of pests. For instance, if you have a chimney and store firewood in the backyard, that’s a very inviting target for termites. Plus, if there are cracks in your foundation, that’s plenty of room for termites to squeeze in and get comfortable.
- How can you avoid pests on your property? Let’s talk about those termites first. You shouldn’t have any lumber or dead wood in the yard, and move firewood inside the garage. Be sure to dispose of any old tree stumps as well. To avoid problems with rodents, spray your lawn with gopher repellant (to prevent digging) and trim tree branches that hang over your roof. Critters can use those branches to climb atop your home and wreak havoc. Finally, be sure to examine the exterior walls and foundation closely for cracks or holes. Use caulking to seal up any openings you find, to prevent pests of all sizes from trying to enter.
